PROJECT BRIEF.
Theme:
The theme of my project is 'Derelict London'. I will be responding to this theme by going to left behind, abandoned places in london. I would like to go to places that have been 'left behind', that might be broken or overgrown. Hopefuly I will be able to mix a sense of man vs nature along with the dereliction.
Research:
In this project, I will be researching into the following artists. These include: Nadav Kander, Stephen Gill, Tim suess and Paul Talling. I will do my research by using different sources such as photography books, the internet, TV, and i will try to go to some exhibitions.
Outcome:
I am interested in creating a final piece that includes derelict scenes of london that include a man vs nature aspect in them.
This is an example of the kind of pictures I would like to take...
This picture was taken in Chernobyl. It was taken by a photographer called Nadav Kander. This picture shows exactly the type of scene I am looking to photograph, it shows a derelict and left behind place also with the man vs nature concept incorporated.
This is my first response to 'My London'.
These photo's were taken in coldfall woods, and also partly in a graveyard that has become very derelict. I like the idea of things being left behind and becoming more and more derelict and capturing these lonesome, overgrown scenes. After this shoot I now know I am looking for these types of places. The snow made it seem even more eary, I like the effect it had one most of the photo's. Some effects I have added are ones that would make the pictures look colder by changing tones to more blue-ish colours. In some photo's, to create a sense of oldness I have changed tones to warmer colours and the lighting down.
This is my first response to my NEW project title 'Lost London'. These photo's were taken in the old highgate station that has been now closed off for public use. I came to take pictures here after I went to ColdFall woods in the snow and fold left behind or lost like an old car, a broken crumbled tomb stone or a broken fence. This place has been cut off from the public, and so has become overgrown. Much like my photo's in the snow, warm sepia colours have been enhanced to create an old effect on the photo's.
This is my second response to 'Lost London'. This photo shoot was at an old hospital on Coppets road for contageous diseases, (now closed down). The hospital was not as derelict as I had hoped so I took some pictures of the allotment across the road as well. The gates of the old hospital have not been used or changed for many years, so they have rusted. The textures of this look nice in the pictures, especially once I have added an effect to them (changing the colours; which changes the mood of the picture).
Research Into Relevant Artists...
Nadav Kander
Nadav Kander is a London based photographer, artist and director, known for his portraiture and landscapes. His work is included in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum and other galleries and museums.
I have chosen to look at this artist because a lot of his work in chernobyl is the type of photography I would like to include in my project. His work in chernobyl is full of many derelict, left behind scenes- much like my project title.

Stephan Gill
Stephen Gill is a British photographer and artist.
I have chosen to research this artist, not because I would like to take pictures and use the same techniques as he has, but because in his pictures he shows a man vs nature theme, which I would like to include in my pictures even if I'm not going to use the techniques he did.

The technique this artist has used is taking a photo and adding things to it and retaking the picture.
Timm Suess
This isTimm Suess. He was born, and grew up in Basel, Switzerland. An industrial psychologist by trade, he has been a passionate photographer since the mid 1990s. After 2002, Timm started to specialize in urban decay photography. He most well known for Chernobyl Journal.
The reason I am researching this artist is because of his interest in urban decay photography. This type of photography is all in derelict places which is exactly what I am looking to get ideas from.

Paul Talling
Paul Talling is such a perfect artist to look at in relation to my project. Paul has a website full of different derelict locations and fantastic pictures to go with them. This is also useful because all of the locations are somewhere in London, so extreemly relevent! These are some pictures from the website...
